Well, it’s April 28, 2021 – Few changes since my last update. Sill mostly on FT8 but mostly on 40 and 30 meters. Reason being I can’t seem to get an SWR sweet spot on my 20 meter hamstick.
I am also spending more time using my Yaesu FT3D and Arrow Antenna doing APRS with the International Space Station.
I finally installed my new Yaesu FT-2980 144 MHz Single Band Mobile Transceiver and Microsat WX3in1 Plus 2.0 APRS Advanced Digipeater / I-Gate. I mounted a Tram 1480 antenna on top of my business and figured the right power setting to avoid covering existing digipeaters / Igates.
I have yet to make a contact using satellite repeaters and kind of gave up for now… that’s pretty much why I started APRS on the ISS. I believe the issue is with the programing of my Wouxun KG-UV9D which I purchased for that purpose.
Click on the map below to views station who have received signals from my station, N2FLA in the last 24 hours. These days, I’m mostly on 30 meters (10.136Mhz) doing FT8.
One of my favorite thing about being a ham radio operator is learning about the wonderful people I am making contact with. If I made a contact with you, you can be assured that you are not just another call-sign on my logbook. At some point during or after the QSO, I visited your QRZ page or any other website you have posted to learn about you and your station.
So yes, playing with the toys is nice but for me making new friends, whether they are nearby or across the globe is the wonderful reward of being a ham radio operator.
You will find me mostly on FT8, 20 meters and sometime 40 meters.
